This is a documentary that I saw on youtube on a channel
named VICE, this channel specializes in documentaries that are released every week. This one talks about the residents of Manitoba Colony in Bolivia, which are called Mennonnites, this colony in special is ultra conservative. The Mennonnites are like the Amish people, who get away from the technology and the big cities. They live in the country side and work all day. This colony is very, very religious, they say that the only path to heaven is to devote to God and work, work nicely and constantly. So since the kids are able to, they start working. This "ghost rapes" started in 2005, when the women woke up and started finding semen and blood in their sheets, but they couldn't remember what happened. The rapers would go inside the houses, and reaped avery women in the house, from the little girls to the mothers. One guy says that they went into his house, raped his wife, then his 4 daughters, the age didn't matter, not even if they were 3 years old. When this began, they said that it was the devil, then when the Bolivian police started the investigation(they don't have their own police) they found out that 8 members of the community were doing it, they used some spray they invented with cow sedative and put to sleep the hole family. This 8 guys were sent to prison, their sentence was 25 years. Yet, even when the culprits were in prison, the rapes continued. Later, the people who were investigating discovered that the real culprits, were the own family members. In the colony there are heavy incest cases, and the men of the house rapes their sisters and daughters. This happens in almost all houses, and there is a small possibility that the women knows the truth, yet they remain silence since their policy is to forgive. The colony members insist that if the 8 guys sent to prison ask forgiveness, then they can return, and they will be forgiven, because if we don't forgive other, God won't forgive us. A girl that run away from the colony said that the Ministers, who are the men who are in charge of the colony, don't care about this, they only care if someone buys a car or a radio, if you do that, then you are banished. This girl told them that his father was abusing her, yet they punished the whole family because they had a car, they didn't even listened what the girl had to say. Later when she got married, her husband started abusing her too.
This cases still exist, and in my opinion, their strict behavior and their religion is making them blind to the truth, at least that is what happens with the women, who can't even talk with strangers or foreigners, who can't continue with their studies and can't learn another language.
wow... this is horrible, even if it's some "kind" of cultural expression it's horrible (at least it look like it because of the permission of the crime). It sucks when a good form of fighting this consumers society is easy corrumpted by people who seems to don't get it together in any context.
